Penang - Family Day Tour

Travel - Penang March 2015

Day 1

This was my 2nd time to Penang after 8 years, Penang has changed alot since the last time I was there. The Penang now has become more modernised with numerous upbeat cafes, yet its maintaining the nostalgic feel with collections from the old cultures through the streets in Georgetown.

After the Pinang Peranakan Museum, I was very interested in the doors and corridors old tiles from the streets in Georgetown. Hope these nostalgic sights will be around still through the years.

Had arranged for a 14 seater Private Van to bring us around on a Penang 9 hours tour, its was very travel friendly with family and no rush as we had 3 elderly, 4 adults and 5kids on this trip. We had paid reasonable amount of RM$450 + tips for our group of 12 paxs (Tip is only for driver who drive us around, food and entrance fee to museums are not included in the RM$450) Feel free to email us for the details of the Day tour contact.

Our planned itinerary for this Day tour
1) Dharmikarama Burmeses Temple
2) Local Penang Street Hawkers for local Breakfast
3) Georgetown UNESCO Heritage Walking Tour (street art)
4) Lunch at Nonya restaurant
5) Pinang Peranakan Museum
6) Penang Hill

We were slow and taking too much of our own sweet time enjoying every place that we went, as the Day tour is only for 9 hours, we had only visited these places.

Enjoy the pictures

Dharmikarama Burmeses Temple

There are 2 Buddhist temples, located directly opposite each other. Conveniently able to go to next Buddhist temple. After the visit to this Burmese temple, we went to the local street hawker for breakfast which is just about 5 mins walk away from the temple.

Breakfast at local street

Food Truck

Local breakfast - 'Zhu Chang Fan' with prawn paste,
chilli and Sweet sauce. Local Kopi.

The local kopi (coffee) was a disappointment to us. We saw banners showing "White coffee" so I went to order it and the lady show me a 3 in 1 packet. So I asked for local kopi (coffee with condense milk). The taste of the local kopi with condense milk was again a disappointment, as it was too sweet and the coffee was too overly diluted.

Pan Cake made from earthen ware cooked on charcoal

Interesting plain taste of flour, had forgottened to ask for the name of this street food.

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, is one of the most distinctive Chinese clan associations in Malaysia. It is well known worldwide for its extensive lineage that can be traced back 650 years, as well as its closely-knit and defensive congregation of buildings and a magnificent clanhouse.

Penang Street Arts

We had managed to locate a few of them. There is a Map for tourist to find the Street Art around Georgetown. Maps can be conveniently found in most hotels. There is also an App on iphone "Penang Mural" indicating places to hunt the street Art.

Lunch at "Mama's Nyonya Cuisine Restaurant"

As the weather in Penang in March was extremely hot and sunny, we were more thirsty then we were hungry. So we had order some dishes for tasting.

Asam Batang Fish

Nonya Chap Chye

Nyonya stir-fried 'Jiu Hu Char' is simply flavorful with sweetness
and flavor from the yambean, prawns, meat, mushroom, carrot
and dried squid, served together with freshly cut lettuce
and spicy sambal. Take a piece of lettuce, spread
alittle spicy sambal and a spoonful of
Ju Hu Char, wrap it then eat and taste it.

Heard about this place from other Penang blogs, we wanted a place that we can chill-out and also a place to fill our stomachs so we decided to go to this place - Georgetown Wines, tapas style. We were invited to visit their wine cellar instead when asked for a winelist. There are various collections of wines from Europe. We randomly picked a bottle of Merlot 2009 from France. Forgotten to take down the name. We were served by M. Ali n team. They had provided us with awesome hospitality and great service. Thank you so much M. Ali. (To M.Ali, this is my promise to u to showcase my photographs of our visit to Georgetownwines) We had a great time there!

Sydney Day 5,  8th June Sunny and cool The gears brought in this trip are Lumix GX7 with Lens 35 - 110mm, iphone 6 and Go Pro Hero Session.
