Penang - Family Tour Day 2

Travel - Penang March 2015

Day 2

2nd day was alittle laid back for us as life in Penang was no rush at all. Had done alot of research on what to do and where to go but as its no rush so we decided to slow our pace, no deadlines hahaha.

After our first day's visit to the Pinang Peranakan Museum, curiosity still kept me excited on the Peranakan culture. Upon hearing the story of that Blue Mansion the super rich owner of this well-known blue mansion - Cheong Fatt Tze had 8 wives. He adores on this 7th wife who was the pretties among the rest and only age 17 when she married Cheong who at that time was already 74 yrs of age and sired a child with this 7th wife. The whole estate of this Blue Mansion was left to this child till he passed away in 1989.

I was so excited wanting to know more about this 7th wife’s lifestyle. Upon reaching "The Blue Mansion - Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. As I didnt do well finding out on timing of the visit to this place,  we reach at 12pm sharp. We were not allowed to enter as we liked, and there are strict rules and strict timings tp follow.

My first disappointment arose when the guard told us to come back at 1:30pm and follow the guided tour.

Note :

Daily guided tours of Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion in English are at 11:00am, 1:30pm and 3:00pm. Admission charge : RM12.00 / person. No Photography

We decided to explore around the area till 1:30pm and go back to feed my curiosity.
Around the area we came to this Chocolate Museum

Lots of Chocolate and local produced coffee beans

Started to get lazy when we saw a cafe

Finally 1:30pm !!! we rushed back to the Blue mansion and had reached the gate at 1:25pm. The guard told us that the guided tour had just started 5 mins ago at 1:20pm, come back at 3pm and depending on the number of head counts to enter. On top of that he told us strictly no Photography in the mansion. Need to follow the guided group strictly no wondering around. Upon hearing that I was even more disappointed with this place and the so called "Strict" rules. So strict that he guided tour which supposed to start at 1:30pm had started at 1:20pm instead with so few heads counts? Felt that the whole tour was overly exaggerated and very commercialised. Visiting the Pinang Peranakan was a much more pleasant and enjoyable experience. Hence we decided to skip this and proceed to next destination.

The Clan Jetties

Clan Jetties are part of the Penang Heritage Trail. There are several jetties, one was demolished by fire and now Six left. They are known as one of the last bastions of old chinese settlements on the island, this waterfront is home to houses on stilts. we went to
2 jetties, The Tan Jetty and the Chew Jetty. The most popular clan is Chew jetty.

This view reminds me of the old place of
Loyang Tua Peh Gong in Singapore

Does this view look like the Old Singapore River back in the 80s?

Fish balls at the Chew Jetty is delicious

Penang - Family Day Tour

Travel - Penang March 2015  Day 1 This was my 2nd time to Penang after 8 years, Penang has changed alot since the last time I was there. The Penang now has become more modernised with numerous upbeat cafes, yet its maintaining the nostalgic feel with collections from the old cultures through the streets in Georgetown.  After the Pinang Peranakan Museum, I was very interested in the doors and corridors old tiles from the streets in Georgetown. Hope these nostalgic sights will be around still through the years. Had arranged for a 14 seater Private Van to bring us around on a Penang 9 hours tour, its was very travel friendly with family and no rush as we had 3 elderly, 4 adults and 5kids on this trip. We had paid reasonable amount of RM$450 + tips for our group of 12 paxs (Tip is only for driver who drive us around, food and entrance fee to museums are not included in the RM$450) Feel free to email us for the details of the Day tour contact.
